Winter Weaving Program for students ends on February 2 , 2017

Winter Weaving Program for students is one of the regular programs conducted by the RTA since 2014.

This winter, it is being conducted from December 19, 2016 – February 2, 2017. It is targeted to provide an opportunity to students to be productively engaged while also training them in the art of weaving, during their long winter vacation.

The students are provided with all the necessary weaving tools and materials by the RTA as well as a minimum stipend to purchase their back to school necessities.

In addition, the RTA also certifies their skills and participation in the program. This year we have 24 participants and some of them have traveled from as far as Trashigang and Trashi Yangtse. The youngest participants are two eleven-year-olds and the eldest is a college student.

On 28 January 2017, the Executive Director of the RTA awarded certificates to 24 participants. In her closing remark, the Executive Director congratulated all the participants for their significant achievements and for their enthusiasm in the traditional art of weaving. She stressed that they must carry on with what they have learnt in the training.

So far, 12 batches comprising of 200 students have attended the winter weaving training program, which usually spans over three months.
