Exhibition on Tashi Gomang inaugurated at the RTA

Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother inaugurates the exhibition

An exhibition titledย โ€œTashi Gomang: A National Treasure of Bhutan,โ€ was inaugurated on 5th November 2016 at the Royal Textile Academy.

Royal Patron of the Tashi Gomang Project, Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother Kesang Choeden Wangchuck, members of the Royal Family, members of the Central Monastic Body, senior government officials, representatives from international organizations and other guests attended the inauguration of the exhibition. His Eminence Tsugla Lopen Rinpoche Samten Dorji inaugurated the exhibition.

As a part of the inaugural event, College of Language and Cultural Studies in Taktse presented a drama on Tashi Gomang and its origin.

The exhibition is an effort to revive 379-year old tradition of Tashi Gomang and the Lam Manips, under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother Ashi Kesang Choeden Wangchuck.

29 Tashi Gomangs are being conserved and restored by conservation experts from the Department of Culture, Thangka Restoration and Conservation Centre and the skilled Bhutanese craftsmen from Department of National Properties. The conservation has been funded by the Royal Government of Bhutan and the artifacts will be returned to the owners and custodians once the exhibition is completed.

The Exhibition is a collaborative effort of the Central Monastic Body, Tashi Gomang Project, Department of Culture, Thangka Restoration and Conservation Centre and the Royal Textile Academy.

The exhibition will be open for public viewing and blessing for the next three months. It will be open Monday to Saturday and during government holidays but will be closed on Sundays.
