His Majesty awards National Order of Merit (Gold)

nom4The Board of Trustees and the Staff of the Royal Textile Academy are deeply humbled and honored to be blessed with the National Order of Merit (Gold) by His Majesty The King at the National Day Celebrations in Trongsa on December 17, 2016. A total of twenty three public-benefit, civil society organizations were recognized for โ€œtheir services to the nation in volunteering and putting effort towards humanitarian values, maintaining culture and tradition and national objectives; for working passionately and tirelessly for the benefit of others; for taking on the responsibility to provide support and assistance wherever the government is not able to reach, and for keeping alive the sacred values of compassion and empathyโ€.

The Royal Textile Academy was established as a non-government, non-profit organization in May 2005 under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck with the mission to promote and preserve the unique textile arts of Bhutan. Since then we have worked on building our premises at Chubachu, Thimphu while simultaneously developing and expanding our programs and projects. Today, the RTA operates a state-of-art textile museum and a weaving and conservation centre. The RTA is also presently constructing an office building to be rented out and will also be building a state-of-art conference centre in the coming years. These phases are geared towards generating additional income to achieve total sustainability in the long run.

As we receive this rare honor and recognition from the Golden Throne, the management of the RTA would like to acknowledge the visionary leadership of our Royal Patron, Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck and the members of the Board, the unstinted support of our principal donor and Trustee, Dr. Frederik Paulsen, our friends and donors from within the country and abroad and the staff of the Academy for their dedicated input and collaborative efforts.

This recognition further boosts our zeal and enthusiasm to work harder to realize the enlightened vision of His Majesty and the noble mandates of our organization. In this sacred and momentous occasion we rededicate our service to the country and to our crown jewel, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck.

We would also like to congratulate our colleagues in the other CSOs for this feat and look forward to working together towards fulfilling the common goals of His Majesty and the nation.
